Staying in Tulum or visiting for the day?

If you are staying in Tulum, almost everything is 8–35 minutes away by scooter: town, the beach, the ruins and the main cenotes. You set the pace, arrive ahead of the groups and change plans whenever you like.

If you are coming for the day from Cancún or the Riviera Maya, a guided tour sorts out the transport and adds a guide to explain the Mayan history. The tours we book pick up at hotels in Cancún and the Riviera Maya, not in Tulum town; the pickup area is listed on each tour.

On your own by scooter

The short version: the ruins at opening time, Playa Paraíso at noon, a cenote on the Cobá road in the afternoon and dinner in town. The full route, with Akumal and where to catch the sunset, is in our things to do in Tulum by scooter guide.

Scooter or e-bike?

Scooters start from $385 MXN a day and e-bikes from $330 MXN. An e-bike covers town, Aldea Zamá, the beach and the ruins; for the cenotes and Highway 307, a scooter is the practical choice. We bring it to your hotel or Airbnb in Tulum, confirm on WhatsApp and you pay when you receive it.

Frequently asked questions

What is there to do in Tulum?

The ruins above the sea, Playa Paraíso and the public beaches, the cenotes on the Cobá road, Caleta Tankah, snorkelling on the reef and food in town or Aldea Zamá. Further out: Akumal and Cobá.

Which Tulum tours can you book?

Guided visits to the Tulum ruins (half day, with snorkelling, with a cenote cavern, or the long day with turtles in Akumal) and Cobá with a cenote. They are shared tours with local operators, and the price per person is confirmed on WhatsApp.

Do the tours leave from Tulum?

No. They pick up at hotels in Cancún and the Riviera Maya (the area is on each tour). If you are staying in Tulum, the easiest way to see the same places is on a scooter.

Can I visit the cenotes without a tour?

Yes. Cenote Calavera and Gran Cenote are about 3 and 4 km from town on the Cobá road; on a scooter you pick which ones and when. Each cenote charges its own entrance fee, in cash.

Is Tulum easy to get around by scooter?

Yes, it is how most of our riders do it: town, the beach and the ruins are 8–15 minutes apart. Outside town, keep right on the 307 and ride back before dark.
