Close by: town, beach and ruins
Day-one plans. From La Veleta or Aldea Zamá you can do all of them without touching Highway 307.
- Tulum ruins: El Castillo above the Caribbean, about 15 minutes away. Arrive at opening, ahead of the tour buses.
- Playa Paraíso: about 12 minutes, the beach stretch that works best on a scooter. Swim, then keep riding.
- Tulum reef: right off the coast, about 12 minutes. Bring your own snorkel gear or rent it from a local operator.
- Town & Aldea Zamá: cafés, tacos and dinner about 8 minutes away. The short hop you will do most.
A bit further: cenotes and Caleta Tankah
- Highway cenotes: Calavera, Gran Cenote, Zacil-Ha and Car Wash on the Cobá road, 20–35 minutes out. Link two or three in a morning.
- Caleta Tankah: cove, cenote and beach in one spot, about 15 minutes. Enough for a full day without leaving Tulum.
- Sunset: in Tulum the sun sets inland, so the jungle side beats the beach for it. Ride back in daylight if you are outside town.
Further out: Akumal
Akumal is about 25 km north on Highway 307, known for the sea turtles in its bay. Access and snorkelling there are regulated, so check the local rules before you go. Leave early, keep right on the 307 and ride back before dark.
Scooter or e-bike for these plans?
For town, Aldea Zamá, the beach and the ruins, an e-bike is enough and needs no fuel. For the cenotes, Tankah and especially Akumal, a scooter is the practical choice: highway riding and back whenever you like. From 3 days, delivery to your hotel or Airbnb is included.
